DJI Phantom 4 Pro – everything you need to know!
We attended the launch of the brand new DJI Phantom 4 Pro. And what an event it was!
We caught up with Michael Perry of DJI and professional photographers and film makers to tell you everything you need to know about this drone. Take a look! –
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro is a great drone for both professional photo and video creators and non-professionals who want to capture awesome images.demand excellence from the camera and platform they use to pursue their creative visions.
Let’s delve into that camera in more detail!
The camera has a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor, and 11 stops of dynamic range. This makes it perfect for bringing out levels of detail. DJI emphasized that the camera performs well in challenging light, including low light. performance unprecedented in a flying camera of this size.
The camera has a mechanical shutter which helps to prevent motion blur, meaning you can capture fast moving scenes without sacrificing quality.
At the other end, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro captures slow-motion 4K video at up to 60 fps at a maximum bitrate of 100 mbps. Plus, it offers H.265 video compression, which substantially improves video quality.
How easy is it to see what I am filming?
One version of the Phantom 4 Pro includes a built in display unit. This provides a clear live HD view from the main camera plus telemetry data. The monitor works well under all conditions, including under direct sunlight.
We’ve all been there trying to put shade over our screen with our hands or a hood – this eliminates that.
The new controller has a built-in GPS, compass, Micro-SD card slot and HDMI port.
How far and how fast can the Phantom 4 Pro fly?
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro has an extended range of 4.3miles.
The drone’s vision sensors have been repositioned which gives it a speed of 31 minutes with full assisted functions turned on. That is a long flight time! Normally maximum flight times on drones are based on hover mode, so contrast that with full flight capability. This announcement got a lot of applause!
In Sport mode, the top speed is 45 mph.
What safety features does the DJI Phantom 4 Pro have?
The new iteration of the Phantom series builds on DJI’s original obstacle avoidance system with FlightAutonomy.
This builds a 3D map of obstacles in front of, behind and below the drone and allows it to pinpoint itself without GPS. This gives greater safety and confidence to the pilot. And as we all know, the less time we spend worrying about flying, the more time we have to concentrate on getting awesome shots!
FlightAutonomy can position, navigate and plan routes enabling the Phantom 4 Pro to avoid obstacles in a sensing range up to 98 feet at front and rear. This even works in complex 3D environments – you don’t need to be in an open field!
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro has an enhanced return to home function which means the drone senses where it should be going from up to 984 feet away and avoids obstacles along the route.
Should the drone lose GPS, DJI have introduced a new safety feature which means that within a minute the drone will return to the last connected position and hover there.
The Phantom 4 Pro also has Landing Protection which detects and help to avoid landing on uneven ground or water.
Does the Phantom 4 Pro help me to capture amazing shots?
DJI has introduced Draw Mode which allows you to draw lines on the controller display and direct the Phantom 4 Pro to fly that route.
ActiveTrack recognizes subjects such as people and bikes and follows them from any angle while maintaining camera focus. It also has three new modes – New Circle, Profile and Spotlight.
Narrow sensing enhances obstacle avoidance sensitivity so the aircraft can fly through complex environments like narrow doorways. A big bonus for real estate photographers!
TapFly has been revised and now works backwards. So you can capture amazing scenes.
TapFly Free allows the pilot to set the direction of flight, turn the drone or tilt the gimbal without changing the direction of flight.
There is also a new AR Route feature, which shows the flight route on the screen.
What is the difference between the two versions of the Phantom 4 Pro?
There are two versions of DJI Phantom 4 Pro available.
The Phantom 4 Pro gives you the drone and standard controller. So, you use your traditional mobile device to see what you are filming.
The Phantom 4 Pro+ include the drone plus the high luminance display remote controller.
