DJI Inspire 2 – everything you need to know!

Almost two years to the day since DJI launched the groundbreaking Inspire 1 they blew everyone away with the announcement of the Inspire 2.

DJI’s Michael Perry and professional photographers and film makers gave us their exclusive take on the all new Inspire 2.  Check it out –

What about the camera makes the Inspire 2 stand out?

The Inspire 2 supports the Zenmuse X4S and X5S cameras. These are brand new and were announced at today’s event.

The Zenmuse X4S has a 1-inch, 20-megapixel sensor with 11.6 stops of dynamic range and a 24 mm equivalent focal length so is perfect for when you require a balance between weight and image quality.

It offers aperture control (f2.8-11) and a mechanical shutter that helps prevent motion blur to the largest extent possible

The Zenmuse X5S has a larger Micro Four Thirds sensor with 20.8 megapixels and an incredible 12.8 stops of dynamic range. The Zenmuse X5S camera supports 8 lenses from wide angles to zooms.

It shoots 20fps continuous burst DNG RAW (20.8 MP).

If you invest in these there is good news as in the future a handheld mount will be available for them!

How easy is it to see what I am filming?

The DJI Inspire 2 has a new forward-facing FPV camera which provides a great flight view for the pilot operating the master controller.

The camera operator receives a separate feed from the Zenmuse camera mounted on the main gimbal.

What is the processing like?

CineCore 2.0 is a new image processing system and it is embedded into the airframe. This means large files can be processed more quickly than ever.

Video can be captured at 5.2K video at 4.2 Gbps for Adobe CinemaDNG RAW videos, and leverages newly-designed, fast CINESSD storage to maximize smoothness

CineCore 2.0 supports many video compression formats including Adobe CinemaDNG, Apple ProRes 422 HQ (5.2K, 4K) and ProRes 4444 XQ (4K), H.264, and H.265.

When recording 4K video in H.264 and H.265, the bitrate is up to 100Mbps.

Inspire 2 streams smooth video at the widely used 1080i50/720p60 broadcast standard, while enhanced Lightbridge video transmission provides smoother HDMI video.

How far and how fast can the Inspire 2 fly?

The DJI Inspire 2 has a top speed of 67 mph. It accelerates to 50 mph in just 4 seconds. This allows you to capture action shots as never before.

The Inspire 2 has a new dual battery system which gives a flight time of up to 27 minutes.

Optional high-altitude propellers are available and this allows the Inspire 2 to reach a maximum service ceiling of 16,404 feet above sea level.

What safety features does the DJI Inspire 2 have?

The Inspire 2 has a dual-battery system. This means that if a battery fails during a flight, the other can provide power for a safe return to home. This gives tremendous reassurance when flying.

Stereo vision sensors are placed on the front and bottom for obstacle detection.

Upward facing infrared sensors are on the top of the Inspire 2 which provides additional protection for flying in enclosed spaces.

The Inspire 2’s self-heating dual battery redundancy system maintains good performance of the battery to -4 degrees Fahrenheit.

What does the Inspire 2 provide to help me to capture amazing shots?

The Inspire 2 has a redesigned propulsion system which allows awesome vertical camera moves.

The drone ascends at almost 20 feet per second and descends at almost 30 feet per second. Redundant systems provide reliability for the IMU, barometer, electronic speed controller communication and satellite navigation modules. The master and slave controller range now

The range of the two remotes is now 328 feet, while users can switch between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequencies to cut through any noise for greater signal stability.

Spotlight Pro Mode locks onto a subject during flight while the aircraft flies freely in another direction. It then automatically rotates the drone to stay on the shot if the gimbal reaches its rotational limit.

Is the Inspire 2 easy to transport when I’m on set?

It is super easy to put the Inspire 2 into travel mood. DJI’s Paul Pan demonstrated this at the launch and it literally took seconds.
